Creator: Minghui Hu

This course covers the variation and change in human curiosity and inquiry in three major civilizational settings (China, Islam and Judeo-Christian) from the end of the Mongol conquest of Eurasia to the beginning of industrial capitalism. Why and how did they watch the sky, track the movement of the Sun, draw maps, make tools and weapons, heal the sick, preserve and pass on what they had learned? Students will explore the basic questions people have asked about their world through reading, discussion, and research.
